Zoek Applications Limited (“We” or “Zoek”) is a UK job board business that operates online job websites including and (“Websites”), portals and mobile device applications (“Apps”) to match job seekers (“Candidates”) with job roles advertised by organisations (“Hirers”).

Zoek endeavours to ensure that the personal information that you submit to us is used only for the purposes described below. We aim to provide a safe and secure experience for all of our users, both Candidates and Hirers. We make every effort to comply with our obligations under applicable laws.

This Privacy Policy (together with our terms and conditions and any other documents referred to in it) sets out the basis on which any personal data We collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand our views and practices regarding your personal information and how We will treat it.

For the purposes of applicable data protection laws (including the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679  and the Data Protection Act 2018) (“Data Protection Laws”), the data controller is Zoek Applications Limited. We are a company registered in England and Wales under company number 07456183 and have our registered office at The Old Shippon, Moseley Hall Farm, Chelford Road, Knutsford, Cheshire, WA16 8RB.

If you are a Candidate, Hirers may also be data controllers for the purposes of the Data Protection Laws if we or you provide your personal information to them.  At that stage use of your personal information will be governed by the privacy policy of the relevant Hirer.

What Information We Collect From You

Personal data or information means any information about an individual from which that person can be identified.

We may collect, use, store and transfer different kinds of personal data about you:

  • Contact Data includes data such as your email address, telephone number and correspondence address
  • Identity Data includes data such as first name, last name, username or similar identifier, date of birth, gender, job title, and if you are a Candidate, information in your CV, cover letter, personal statement or information in your bio section and the kind of work you are looking for and your preferred work location. Do not add or submit any Identity Data on the Website or Apps, if you do not want us to collect it and for us to use it in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
  • Technical and Usage Data includes data such as internet protocol (IP) address, your login data, browser type and version, cookies, time zone setting and location, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform and other technology on the devices you use to access our websites and any communications we may send to you.

You may give us personal data by filling in forms on the Website, or by corresponding with us (for example by email). This includes information provided at the time of registering to use the Website, download our Apps, subscribing to our service, sharing data via the Apps social media functions, posting material or requesting further services.

We may also ask you for information when you report a problem with the Website.

If you contact us in writing, we may keep a record of that correspondence and We may also record any telephone call We have with you.

We may also ask you to complete surveys that we use for research purposes, although you do not have to respond to them.

Certain personal data is mandatory to be provided to us in order that We can fulfil your request, and We shall make this clear to you at the point of collection of the personal data.

If you provide to us personal data about any other individual, you must have their consent to do so.

All personal data that you provide to us must be true, complete and accurate.  If you provide us with inaccurate or false data, and We suspect or identify fraud, We will record this and We may also report this to the appropriate authorities.

At our request, you shall promptly provide evidence of your identity.

We do not obtain financial information about our users because we use a third party payment provider to manage payments on our Website and Apps.

Data we collect about you and your device

Each time you use our Apps or Websites, we may automatically collect Technical Information and Usage Information.

We use the Technical Information and Usage Information for research purposes and to improve our services.

Data We Receive From Others

You may provide personal data to us directly, or third parties may provide information about you to us. For example, given the nature of the services we provide, we may receive information about you from other users; a Hirer might provide information to us about a Candidate and vice versa.

We may also receive personal data about you from our subcontractors and agents such as companies we engage to provide IT services or payment services to us.

We may use your personal data to check the validity of the information you have given to us and accordingly, we may receive further personal data from third parties, confirming or otherwise, such information.

Uses Made of The Data

We will only use your personal data where we have a lawful basis to do so.  The lawful purposes that we rely on under this Privacy Policy are:

  • consent (where you choose to provide it following a request or option to do so);
  • performance of our contract with you;
  • compliance with legal requirements; and
  • legitimate interests. When we refer to legitimate interests we mean our legitimate business interests in the normal running of our business which do not materially impact your rights, freedom or interests.

If you register on Zoek as a Hirer or a Candidate and provide us with personal data, we will process such personal data on the basis that it is necessary to do so to perform the contract you enter with us, that is , our Terms of Use.

By registering on the Website, it is understood that a Candidate is actively soliciting contact from a prospective Hirer about opportunities which match the Candidate’s field of interest. If you are a Candidate, we will therefore make your personal data available to the Hirers who use the Website, to find suitable Candidates for specific roles that they are advertising on Zoek and are seeking to fill. This is actioned when a Candidate applies for a job role advertised on the Website by the Hirer.

Although the purpose of Zoek is to allow Candidates and Hirers to find each other, Candidates can control the extent to which your personal data is shared with Hirers on the Candidate’s “My Account” section on the Website.

As a Candidate, we use information held about you in the following ways:

  • To provide you with services
  • To process your data when we need to fulfil a contract with you, such as to send your CV to a Hirer when you submit your application for a job role
  • To match you with suitable job roles based on the search you have actioned on the Website, the preferences you have entered on the Website, when registering, and the ‘Saved Searches’ you create
  • To facilitate social media sharing functionality
  • To manage your account
  • To email you about recruitment services, which include Zoek Job Alerts and emails about career advice and new features on the Website that can help you with your job search
  • To ensure that content from the Website is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer, mobile phone or smart device
  • To provide you with information, products or services that you request from us or which we feel may interest you, where you have consented to be contacted for such purposes
  • To carry out our obligations arising from any contracts entered between you and Zoek
  • To allow you to participate in interactive features of our service, when you choose to do so
  • To resolve complaints, and handle requests for data access or rectification
  • To notify you about changes to our service

As a Hirer, We use information held about you in the following ways:

  • To verify the information you have given to us
  • To provide you with access to our Website and Apps
  • To match you with suitable Candidates from the job advert you create and publish on the Website,
  • If a Candidate has technical problems when submitting their application to your job advert on the Website, we will provide the Candidate with the responsible Hirer’s information, this information will only be the Name and Email Address that has been entered and selected when posting the advert
  • To manage your account
  • To email you about recruitment services, which include Zoek Job Posting offers and emails about new features on the Website that can help you find the ideal Candidate for your job advert
  • To ensure that content from the Website, is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer, mobile phone or smart device
  • To provide you with information, products or services that you request from us or which we feel may interest you, where you have consented to be contacted for such purposes
  • To carry out our obligations arising from any contracts entered between you and Zoek
  • To resolve complaints, and handle requests for data access or rectification
  • To allow you to participate in interactive features of our service, when you choose to do so
  • To notify you about changes to our service

We may also publish or disclose aggregate anonymous information about our Hirers  and Candidates for example we may,:

  • state that 20 Hirers in the Driving industry are receiving X amount of applications from Candidates on any given day
  • inform a Hirer that 500 Candidates have clicked on their job advert on any given day; and
  • notify our advertisers with statistical data about our users browsing actions and patterns.

We may from time to time need to use your personal data to comply with any legal obligations, demands or requirements, for example, as part of anti-money laundering processes or to protect a third party’s rights, property, or safety.

We may also use  and share your personal data during negotiations of, any merger, sale of assets, consolidation or restructuring, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business by or into another company.

Please note that Zoek reserves the right to delete your account and your personal data, if any content within an account is considered illegal or offensive.

Who do we share your data with?

Given the nature of the services we provide on our website, we may provide information about you to other users in accordance with our Terms of Use, so we may share Candidates’ data with Hirers, and Hirers’ data with Candidates as set out above.

For our legitimate interests, we may share your personal data with our sub-contractors and agents that we may appoint to perform functions on our behalf and in accordance with our instructions, including IT service providers, payment providers, accountants, auditors and lawyers.

We shall provide our sub-contractors and agents only with such of your personal data as they need to provide the service for us and if we stop using their services, we shall request that they delete your personal data or make it anonymous within their systems.

We may disclose your personal information to any member of our group, which means our subsidiaries, our ultimate holding company and its subsidiaries, as defined in section 1159 of the UK Companies Act 2006.

We may also disclose your personal information to third parties:

  • If we sell or buy any business or assets, in which case we may disclose your personal data to the prospective seller or buyer of such business or assets.
  • If Zoek Applications Limited or substantially all of its assets are acquired by a third party, in which case personal data held by us about our users will be one of the transferred assets.
  • If we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation, or in order to enforce or apply our terms of website use and other agreements; and/or
  • To protect the rights, property, or safety of Zoek, our users, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud protection and credit risk reduction.

Profiling or other automated individual decision making

With your consent, we may conduct automated decision making or profiling of a Candidate to adapt our communications to your profile and to improve your access to and use of the Website. This means that our systems make decisions about Candidates without human involvement.

Third party links

Our Website, may, from time to time, contain links to and from the websites of our partner networks, Hirers and affiliates. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites and any services that may be accessible through them have their own privacy policies and that We do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies, or for any personal data that may be collected through these websites or service, such as contact and location data. Please check these policies before you submit any personal data to these websites or use these services.

Communications and Email Marketing

If you register on the Website, we will only send you information about the Website, for example Zoek Job Matches and Notifications, Zoek Job Alerts, marketing emails informing you of new features on Zoek and Zoek Monthly Newsletters if you opt in to receive these communications, this is actioned on the Website’s registration form. You can also amend your preferences if you wish at any time in the ‘Communications Centre’ section of your account.

All Zoek email communications that can be turned on or off at any time on the ‘Communications Center’ section will also have a quick ‘Unsubscribe’ feature at the bottom of the email, again if you do unsubscribe and wish to start receiving certain Zoek communications again you can change your preference in the ‘Communications Center’ section of your account.

All activity made on the ‘Communications Centre’ is recorded with your preference and timestamp when the preference is made or amended but do be aware that it may take us a few days to update our records to reflect your request.

Please note that once you register and have an account with Zoek you will always receive transactional emails in relation to your account, for example Password Reset and Job Application emails. Transactional emails will only be deactivated when an account is deleted.


Cookies are text files placed on your computer or smart device to collect standard internet log and visitor behaviour information. This information is used to track visitor use of the Website, to compile statistical reports on the Website, activity and to help us make job recommendations that are relevant to you. They also help us to improve the Website and to deliver a better and more personalised service. Some of the cookies we use are essential for the Website to operate.

Please note that any Hirers may also use cookies, over which we have no control. You can block cookies by activating the setting on your browser which allows you to refuse the setting of all or some cookies. However, if you use your browser settings to block all cookies (including essential cookies) you may not be able to access all or parts of the Website. Unless you have adjusted your browser setting so that it will refuse cookies, our system will issue cookies as soon you visit the Website.

Where We Store Your Personal Data

The data that we collect from you is transferred to, and stored at, a destination inside the United Kingdom and/or European Economic Area (“EEA”). It may also be processed by staff operating outside the EEA who work for us or for one of our suppliers. Such staff may be engaged in, amongst other things, the provision of support services. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy. All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers. If we share your personal data with any third-party service provider in the course of providing you with our services, those third parties are required to process your data in accordance with contracts with comply with the Data Protection Laws.



Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of the Website, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone.

We shall process your personal data in a manner that ensures appropriate security of the personal data, including protection against unauthorised or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage.  In particular, access is restricted to employees who need to know your personal data, and we use appropriate password protection and appropriate strong encryption electronic measures within our electronic data management systems.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure.  Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to the Website – any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.

Your Rights

  • Right of access: You have the right to obtain from us a copy of the personal data that we hold for you.

  • Right to restriction of processing: In certain circumstances, you have the right to require that we restrict the processing of your personal data.
  • Right to be forgotten: You also have the right at any time to require that we delete the personal data that we hold for you, where it is no longer necessary for us to hold it. However, whilst we respect your right to be forgotten, we may still retain your personal data in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Right to stop automated decision making and profiling: You have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing including profiling; but do be aware that as Candidate, your use of the Website may be restricted if you choose not to allow this. In particular, if a Candidate does not consent or withdraws consent to automated decision making and profiling, We cannot propose the Candidate to a Hirer for any job.
  • Right to stop receiving marketing information: You can ask us to stop sending you information about our business, but please note we shall continue to contact you in relation to any matters relating to your account, if you have one.

You may be able to exercise some of these rights within by amending your preferences on the ‘Communications Centre’  on the Website or by contacting us at

We reserve the right to charge an administrative fee if your request in relation to your rights is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

If you have any complaints in relation to this Privacy Policy or otherwise in relation to our processing of your personal data, please tell us. We shall review and investigate your complaint and try to get back to you within a reasonable time.  You can also contact the Information Commissioner, see information commission office or if you are based outside of the United Kingdom, please contact your local regulatory authority.

Retention of personal data

Subject to the provisions of this Privacy Policy, we will retain personal data in accordance with applicable laws.  We will keep that information till the Candidate removes the information off the Website, or for as long as you want to keep your account with Zoek.

In particular, we shall retain your personal data for as long as you have an account on our website. However, we may also be required to retain personal data for a particular period of time to comply with legal, auditory or statutory requirements, including requirements of HMRC in respect of financial documents.
